March Meeting Minutes

Phyllis Allen

The Carolina Austin-Healey Club met on Monday, May 17, with 22 members in attendance. Charlie
Grobusky conducted the meeting in Dick Lunney’s absence. Fred Dabney presented Dick’s notes on the
Southeastern Classic. There were 60 cars present and a good turnout from the CAHC. The tours, rally and events through the Ocala countryside were great. Dick took third overall in the Autocross and first in his class. The Walton’s came in 2nd in the rally. John Davidson’s car had some rear end problems and Dick’s had a leaky transmission problem. Bill Walton reported that the Best in Show was a Nash Healey recently restored to a race car. We were also informed that the 2011 Southeastern will be hosted by the Atlanta Club and it will be held in Lake Guntersville State Park, south of Huntsville, Alabama, on Oct. 20-23, 2011. The CAHC will be
hosting the Southeastern in 2012. We are looking into a site somewhere on the coast. The newly formed St.
John’s Club in Florida has expressed a desire to host the 2013 Southeastern. It will be their first and they are
looking into St. Augustine or one of the beaches near Jacksonville. This year the Walton’s attended their 24th
Southeastern.

Greenville Scottish Games in Greenville, South Carolina, on May 28-29 – Prince Edward will be
attending along with the Lunneys.

Fall Mountain trip on September 25-26 in Abingdon, Virginia. Dick still has tickets available for the “Full
Monte” at the Barter Playhouse. If you are interested contact Dick (see box at right).

Chuck Reeves made arrangements for the Mountain Trip to again take place at the Saluda Mountain Inn on
July 30, 31 & Aug. 1. He also made arrangements to have two meals catered at the Saluda Inn. So we will not have
to go into town to get a meal.

Ann Jones gave us an update on BCDS and asked for volunteers to sign up for setup on Saturday and takedown on Sunday. The only things we cannot set up on Sat. will be the tents. Paul Jacobs will supply us with the tables and radios for communication. Bill Walton told us he is going to borrow the wrench track from the people at the Gathering. It was suggested that members bring some tools to make a wrench car racer on site to show how it is done. Charlie gave us packets to present to potential sponsors. We need to work on this aspect of the show. The level of sponsorship will be $250 – Order of the Bronze Chalice, $500 – Order of the Silver Garter and $1,000 – Order of the Round Table. Please let these potential sponsors know that in addition to advertising and other benefits, they will have their names printed on the back of the BCDS T shirts. Treasure needs these names by May 21. Wilber Wright sent out over 100 letters asking venders to donate items for our raffle, so far we have about 35 items with some baskets being donated by our members. Any item donated over $100 we will place it in a silent auction. Paul Jacobs gave us a signed Mitty poster for the raffle. He acquired this poster from the Road Atlanta races he attended this past weekend. Bill and Debbie Walton will again do the photography for the BCDS event.

The VIR Gold Cup Races will take place on June 5-6. The Jones’ will again host a dinner on Saturday evening at their condo at VIR.

Chuck Anderson read a letter from Ben Moore, Future 50’s coordinator, stressing the importance of promoting the Future 50’s Club. Ben stated we have to get the 16 to 30 year olds interested in the Austin-Healey so that the clubs
and the Healeys will keep going. He also sent posters to distribute.

Joyce and Mel Allen cancelled their July 10 Summer Lake Party due to major construction on the road to their cottage. They said they will host it next year.

50/50 was won by Dennis Harris.

Fred Dabney did not make a formal report on the Treasury amount, but told me the sum, as of May 17,
2010, is $7,821.46

We had two guests join us at this meeting, John Miller and his son Craig Miller. John has wanted a
Healey since 1960, and he is now in pursuit of a restored Healey, preferably around 1963.
