A Roaring Start

The new driving year is off to a roaring start! This past month several of us drove down to Ocala, Florida, for the Southeastern Classic and a few of us drove down to Furman University for the Greenville Scottish Games Car Show. Now in June we’ve got the Gold Cup Vintage races at VIR followed by British Car Day South on Sunday, June 13. This is the start of a great year that will really rack up the miles on the Healey as I anticipate driving to Conclave in Illinois in July, the Mountain Trip in August, the
Fall Mountain Drive up to Abingdon, Virginia, in September, followed by EURO and Brits & Battleships in October. Whew, I’ll be ready for the Christmas Party in December and turning over the gavel to Charlie to lead us forward in 2011.

Back to British Car Day South, we need your help. Many have already volunteered and most of our club has already registered for the show, but if you haven’t signed up…NOW IS THE TIME! This year should bring out a record turnout of cars and spectators, so every pair of hands helping lay out the field on Saturday, or assisting with registration, or the raffle, or ballot counting, or cleaning up after the event is critical to the success of the event. We’ve got a new event this year that will need some assistance…”Wrench” Racing, so there is a job for everyone.

The group going to Conclave up at Galena, Illinois, is also growing in numbers. Several of us are already laying out a route using back roads through Kentucky and Illinois that should be fun and interesting. Chuck Reeves reports early registration for the Mountain Trip assures another sellout, so if you are thinking of going, get your hotel registration in today and let Chuck know you are planning to join the group. The Fall Mountain Trip up to Abingdon, Virginia, has already gotten several checks from folks from the Atlanta Club who are planning on going with us to the famous Barter Theater to see the “Full Monte” and hopefully drive around the famous Bristol Motor Speedway.

Brits & Battleships in Wilmington has changed the date to the “Fifth Saturday” in October (30th) instead of the first Saturday of October. It should be even better being a little earlier, so if you are interested, check out their website at www.bmccf.org.
